Alt-J Primed To Become Best Backed Act In Mercury History
William Hill punters have been piling into Alt-J to win the Barclaycard Mercury Music Prize ever since the shortlist was announced on Wednesday. Originally offered at 5/1, the Cambridge-based band have been the subject of over half of all Mercury bets placed and their odds are now as short as 7/4. They are the clear favourites to win the award with Django Django the 5/1 second favourites, while Richard Hawley is next in at 11/2.
“Alt-J have stormed to the top of the betting and our punters are certainly having their say on who they think will win,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly. “If the betting continues in this vein, they will certainly be the best backed act in Mercury history.”
