Classic Gambles Begin As Inler Halves In Price For 2000 Guineas

2000 Guineas entry Inler has been the subject of a strong gamble with bookmakers William Hill this morning, backed down to odds of 16-1 from 33-1 in just a few hours.

The Margaret Findlay-owned colt attracted attention late last season with an eye-catching debut at Newmarket – a race where the fifth-placed runner won on his next outing. Despite an engagement in the Horris Hill at Newbury Inler failed to line-up after ground conditions changed and ended his two-year-old season with just one start.

Kate Miller, spokeswoman for William Hill, said: ‘’It seems attention is truly turning to the Flat now with Inler sparking the first of the intriguing Classic gambles. The whispers are already circulating that John Best’s charge could be something truly special and it’ll be intriguing to see where he lines-up next.’’

2000 Guineas: 9-4 St Nicholas Abbey, 7-1 Canford Cliffs, 10-1 Arcarno, Steinbeck (doubtful), 12-1 Awzaan, 16-1 Elusive Pimpernel, Inler, Jan Vermeer, Kingsfort, Passion for Gold, 20-1 Cape Blanco, Fencing Master, Workforce, 25-1 Chabal, Pounced, 33-1 bar Others on request (EW 1/4 1,2,3)
