Gay Trip Slams Hedgehunter & Red Rum For Rimell & Taaffe

William Hill’s ‘All Time Champions’ Grand National went to 1970’s Aintree hero Gay Trip for Fred Rimell and Pat Taaffe.

The 20/1 winner beat Hedgehunter by a length with Red Rum back in Third and West Tip back in fourth.

The latest race is amongst a series launched at the Cheltenham Festival and celebrating the greatest racehorses throughout the decades. David Hood, spokesman for William Hill, said: ‘’Our punters love the walk down memory lane, although I think they might have liked the stroll better if the 7/1 joint-favourite Hedgehunter or Red Rum had prevailed. Again, we’ll be donating profits of the Champions races to charities and the next in the series will be the 1000 and 2000 Guineas.”

The Cheltenham races featured some intriguing results with Gay Trip, joins the illustrious names of Punjabi, One Man, Baracouda and Best Mate, who were crowned the All-time Champions in the Champion Hurdle Champion Chase, Stayers’ Hurdle, and Gold Cup.
