Hot Favourite Felled In The Guineas As France Lead The Way To A 33-1 Winner!

HOT FAVOURITE FELLED IN THE GUINEAS AS FRANCE LEAD THE WAY TO A 33-1 WINNER!
Flat headquarters were left stunned this afternoon, with a shock result in the running of the first Classic of the year – The 2000 Guineas.
French raider Makfi sailed home to a silent Newmarket, returning home at odds of 33-1 – the biggest-priced winner since Henry Cecil’s Bolkonski in 1975.
Winter favourite, St Nicholas Abbey failed bested by the French raider– left the punters bereft after an immense gamble throughout the week.
Bookmakers William Hill kept the son of Montjeu as their Investec Derby favourite, but eased his price to 2-1 from 6-4, with Elusive Pimpernel – a staying-on fifth trimmed to 8-1 from 10-1.
Kate Miller, spokeswoman for William Hill, said: ‘’This is the biggest-priced winner of the Guineas in 35 years, but he was not completely without interest, with some small ante-post support earlier this week. The favourite will now head to Epsom, without his unbeaten record, and punters will surely be looking for inspiration now his reputation is tarnished.’’
Investec Derby: 2-1 St Nicholas Abbey, 8-1 Elusive Pimpernel, Jan Vermeer, Workforce, 14-1 Coordinated Cut, 16-1 Chabal, Passion for Gold, 20-1 Al Zir, Desert Myth, Mikhail Glinka, 25-1 Ameer, Burj Nahar, Cape Blanco, Midas Touch, 33-1 Farrrej, Flying Cross, Joshua Tree, Noble’s Promise, Zeitoper, 40-1 Bar (EW 1/4 odds 1,2,3)
