Lope De Vegas 5/4 For A Group One Three-timer

William Hill have opened betting on Sunday’s French clash the Prix Jean Prat, making French Guineas and Derby winner Lope de Vegas their 5-4 favourite.

The son of Sharmadal reapposes Dick Turpin – who finished just half-a-length behind him in the Poule D'Essai Des Poulains in May. The Richard Hannon-trained colt now rates as a 7-2 chance to go one better than his Longchamp second.

Other notable runners include Pat Eddery’s 9-2 chance Hearts of Fire – a third in last month’s St James’s Palace Stakes, and Jean-Luc Lagardere winner Siyouni.

Kate Miller, spokeswoman for William Hill, said: ‘’Lope de Vega is bidding to become the best of the European Classic generation with a win in Sunday’s race, but cannot escape some tricky opposition in the form of the ultra-consistent Dick Turpin.’’

Prix Jean Prat: 5-4 Lope De Vega, 7-2 Dick Turpin, 9-2 Hearts Of Fire, 5-1 Siyouni, 14-1 Xtension, 25-1 Frozen Power, Sormiou, 150-1 Altair Star (EW 1/5 1,2,3)
