Opening Galway Hurdle & Plate Betting From Hills

William Hill have opened betting on the two feature races of the 2010 Galway Festival – the Tote Galway Plate and the Guinness Galway Hurdle.

The bookies make the Dermot Weld trained Majestic Concorde their 8-1 favourite for 2 mile 6 furlong Tote Galway Plate.

Weld, who also entered Bobs Pride in the race, has won the race four times in the last twenty years – with Kiichi (1990) General Idea (1993) Ansar (2004 & 2005).

Other leading contenders will probably be the Paul Nicholls entry Five Dream, the 2006 Galway Hurdle winner Cuan Na Grai and the Willie Mullins trained Themoonandsixpence.

‘The Galway Plate is always one of the most competitive races of the year, but this year’s renewal looks like a real conundrum for punters,’ said William Hill’s Irish spokesman Tony Kenny ‘You could probably make a case for the first twenty or so in the betting.’

‘The Dermot Weld trained Majestic Corcorde heads our betting for the Plate, but we’re expecting to see a good spread of money on the race.’

*** William Hill have installed Overturn as their 7-1 favourite for the 2 mile Guinness sponsored Galway Hurdle.
