Workforce Evens For Another Track-record Demolition

Recent Epsom Derby winner Workforce remains the odds-on 4-5 favourite with William Hill for this weekend’s King George & Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot.

Handler Sir Michael Stoute also holds the 9-4 second-favourite Harbinger and ranks as a 1-6 chance with Hills to train the race winner, and even money to saddle the first two home. Workforce is also quoted at evens to add another track-record to his bow following his destruction of the Epsom clock last month.

Aidan O’Brien is another trainer bidding for a further success in the middle-distance Group One and saddles Irish Derby winner, and 6-1 third-favourite Cape Blanco.

Of the other contenders, the luckless Youmzain has attracted recent money being backed down to 14-1 from 20-1 this morning.

Kate Miller, spokeswoman, for William Hill: “The King George is promising to be one of the best clashes between the Classic and older generation for a number of years. Workforce and Cape Blanco combine forces as the Derby winners but take-on Harbinger, Dar Re Mi, and Youmzain in a mouth-watering clash. Fireworks will surely fly, and the inclusion of a pacemaker by Stoute makes us certain the track-record will be in jeopardy.’’
