Gambler's four hundred grand gamble beaten:
WORLD'S LARGEST WORLD CUP BET IS A LOSER.....A William Hill client has staked the world's largest ever World Cup wager - gambling £400,000 on Italy to beat USA on Saturday night.
The customer, a Swiss businessman, placed the bet at odds of 2/5 and stood to make a profit of £160,000 from his mega-gamble.Instead, after an eventful 1-1 draw, the bet proved to be a loser.
'It was a bold gamble, and with a string of World Cup favourites having won, we were resigned to defeat when Italy went a goal ahead' said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe. 'But when USA equalised through an equaliser everything changed and the draw was worth some £2million to us, making it one of the best World Cup results ever.'
